The South Asian Archaeological Gazetteer is an on-line database of information regarding later prehistoric sites in northwest South Asia. At present there are approximately 2900 sites recorded within the database, with a broad range of information available for each site. This information includes a geographical hierarchy, cultural periods, material culture, dates and publications.

Through the search screen the user can look for sites based on geographical provenance and/or cultural period. A results screen is then generated that allows the user to select a specific site and more detailed information. This detailed information can also be updated. If an update is submitted then the new information will be forwarded to a group of peers for review. Once verified this information will be uploaded to the on-line database.

At present the database only contains information about later prehistoric sites in Afghanistan, Pakistan and northwest India. However, new submissions to the database covering archaeological sites in the subcontinent, of any chronological period, are most welcome.
